The government of Kenya has authorized the release of funds for the implementation of free secondary education for its country’s citizens.
The sum of Sh 37bn (about $357,790,000) was released just a day after schools reopened across the country, fulfilling a pledge made during the election campaign by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Sh 29.5bn (about $280,430,000) has been paid to all the public secondary schools for implementation of the Free Secondary Education (FSE) and the remaining Sh 7.5bn will go to the printing and supply of textbooks for both secondary and primary schools.
The details of the new policy implementation and the breakdown of funds was contained in a statement released by the director of secondary and tertiary education at the Ministry of Education.
