Legendary Ghanaian highlife star Amakye Dede has been named as a honorary chief in his hometown of Asante Akyem Agogo for his magnificent contributions to the town over the span of his hall of fame career.
The Omanhene of the traditional area, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, conferred the honour on the artist at a ceremony held in the town on the 1st of January, 2018.
The legendary singer’s stool name, as revealed by the chief, would be Berima Okyeredom Amakye Dede I.
Over a lengthy career spanning decades, Amakye Dede has distinguished himself as a composer of classic hit songs, accompanied with winning countless awards.
A native of Agogo, the Omanhene also recognized the artist for building a new hotel in the town which would help improve its local economy.
Accepting the honour, the ‘Iron Boy’ hitmaker said he would conduct himself in a manner befitting of the high office he is being entrusted with.
“…I want to assure Nananom that I will take my responsibility very seriously and I will do everything to uphold the dignity of this office and I will not let you down in any undertakings that I have to do.” he said.
It’s been quite the turnaround for the legendary star, who spent the beginning of last year in trauma after surviving a terrible accident which killed his long time manager, Isaac Yeboah.
Congrats!
