Girl Talk Concert: A Few Days to the End of Efya’s Glorious Era and Yet Organisers Cannot Find a Deserving Substitute in Ghana—Maybe It’s Time to Consider Nigeria

Girl Talk

Efya, a talented Ghanaian musician took over what has become Ghana’s only and biggest all female concert and brand, Girl Talk, from an equally amazing artist, Becca—and after three conservative thrilling performances, Efya is set to bow out gloriously.
While patrons of the annual event prepare for Efya’s last concert as Girl Talk’s energetic headliner, organisers of the enviable event are uncertain about the future of the concert.
Sources close to Palm Media, owners of the Girl Talk brand have told GhanaCelebrities.Com that, finding a befitting substitute in Ghana has become a headache.
From Becca to Efya, it can effortlessly be deduced that, a Girl Talk headliner ought to have real musical talent; must be well branded and should not be hugely profane-driven when it comes to content. The individual’s music and persona must appeal to both the contemporary generation of social media lovers and Ghana’s settled old class of elites.
The above may seem simple on the face of it but perching any of our so called reigning Ghanaian female artistes to it easily reveals the difficulty Palm Media may indeed be dealing with.
GhanaCelebrities.Com has been told that, “it’s really that bad to the extent that Palm Media is considering a jump into Nigeria to sign an artist for the next few years as Girl Talk Ghana’s headliner.”
It would be contemptuous to the Ghanaian Music Industry and even rob the entire industry of any bragging rights it holds against Nigeria if such a successful home-based brand cannot find a worthy Ghanaian female artist to headline Girl Talk for the next few years.
The lack of a suitable replacement for Efya somewhat highlights the fact that, the many Ghanaian female artistes are failing to pull their weights—and those who seem to be nailing hit songs, are doing so to the neglect of equally important components of showbiz, such as branding.
Sponsored by Vitamilk, this year’s Girl Talk concert, Efya’s last and therefore dubbed “the bowout” will take place at the National Theatre in Accra on 27 December (8 PM prompt).
Tickets can be purchased from Airport Shell, Koala, Batsoona Total, Silver Bird Cinema and National Theatre.
Though it remains a strictly only women concert, as usual, a tall list of supporting artists of which many would be men, will mount the stage to bid Efya farewell with electrifying performances.
The question remains; who’s a befitting substitute in Ghana?
