8 Suspects In The Major Mahama Murder Released By Court

Maxwell Mahama

8 of the 22 suspects standing trial for the murder of Major Maxwell Mahama have been released due to a lack of evidence against them.
The Accra District Court hearing the case discharged the 8 following a recommendation from the Attorney General’s department over the status of the investigation.
Prosecutors say they have gathered evidence against 14 accused persons and none against the other 8, leading trial judge Worlanyo Kotoku to necessarily grant them their freedom.
The freed 8 include Yaw Annor, Philip Badu, Kwame Adjei, Solomon Sackey, Vivian Asahene, Anthony Amegah, Solomon Kojo Fordjour and Ebenezer Appiah.
Major Maxwell Mahama, an army officer, was killed by a lynch mob in Denkyira-Obuasi earlier this year, apparently after being mistaken for an armed robber.
The trial for the other 14 would continue at the Accra High Court.
