Branding is crucial for any showbiz personality who wants to make it. Some people become so successful in life and even later they still feel the need to rebrand to remain relevant. You can never underestimate the power of branding.
One person whose branding has really worked for her is Nana Ama McBrown. Everyone knows her by that name and many do not even realize that it’s not her real name.
The actress, real name Felicity Ama Agyemang, said as she was growing up an uncle suggested a more ‘exotic’ name to brand her properly as her name was too common.
“When I was in school, my name was not Nana Ama McBrown. I was born Felicity Ama Agyemang but an uncle of mine based in the USA who felt the name was not good enough to brand me properly chose McBrown for me.” she said.
“There were times they will be mentioning Nana Ama McBrown and I will not respond because that was not my name and it was not in tune with what I had grown to be identified as. Branding is very important in one’s career.

“Today when you mention McBrown everybody knows it is me. If I had maintained the Felicity you can imagine how many ladies in this hall will respond if I shout Felicity” she added, addressing her audience of students at the KNUST ‘Tek Talk.’
