Seven times European Champions A.C Milan have sacked coach Vicenzo Montella, following a poor run of form that has left the club 7th in Serie A.
Montella was appointed in 2015 and qualified the team to their first European competition in three years after finishing 6th in 2016/17.
However, after the club spent over $200m in the last transfer window to compete at the top once again, results did not match the investment, with Milan losing all games against direct European rivals.
The team has also won only two games in the last 9 in all competitions.
Early Monday morning, following a goalless draw against Torino at the San Siro on Sunday, the club announced the decision to fire Montella.
It was also announced that club legend Gennaro Gattuso, who currently coaches the Milan youth team, would take over Montella’s job as first team manager.
A.C Milan are one of the most successful teams in world football, having won the Italian championship 18 times, behind only Juventus; and the European Cup/Champions League 7 times, behind only Real Madrid.
