South African paralympian Oscar Pistorius has had his jail term increased to 13 years and five months, after a successful appeal from prosecutors.
Pistorius received ‘only’ a six month jail term after he killed his then girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013.
Pistorius argued that he thought she was a burglar and thus was tried for manslaughter instead of murder.
However, his six year sentence was seen as too low by prosecutors who sought it to be increased with an appeal.
And the Appeals Court granted the motion, increasing his sentence to 15 years, minus time already served.
