The Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, has ordered the Central Regional Police Command to take over the case of the 4 year old girl allegedly defiled by a man who is being protected by the chief of his town.
Following intense media reportage of the issue and outcry over the police’s seeming lack of interest in seeing that justice is served, a statement has been released from headquarters seeking to reassure the public.
The statement says the investigation would be focused on how to save the child and ensure proper justice is seen to.
The mother of the girl has been crying out the media following attempts by elders in the town to quash the issue. When she reported the defilement to the chief, he reportedly told her to forget the case as the gods had declared the suspect innocent.
Identified only as Kwabena, the suspect is reportedly the chief’s cousin and his father, the chief’s uncle, played an instrumental role in handing him the stool.
