A fake lawyer has been arrested in Kumasi after practising for ten years and making a lot of money within that time duping people.
Michael Asante presented himself as a qualified officer of the law to his victims and offered his assistance in various services including securing them contracts, enlistments into the security services and admissions into tertiary institutions.
He was recently arrested after attempting one of his scams, in which he landed a Ghc 695,000 windfall.
He introduced himself to two contractors as the Special Assistant to the CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) and managed to extort the amount from them to help them secure a contract building oil storage facilities for TOR.
He used the same modus operandi with his other clients, promising his help to get them admission to tertiary institutions or enlistment into the security services, all whilst collecting money from them and failing to deliver.
After duping the two contractors, they reported the issue to a national security operative, leading to Asante’s eventual arrest.
