The Black Starlets cruised to a 2-0 victory over Niger at the U-17 World Cup to set up a massive quarter final clash against African champions Mali.
Captain Eric Ayiah converted a first half penalty to give Ghana the lead, with Richard Danso sealing up the victory with a stoppage time screamer.
The Starlets were aiming for a quarter final clash when they took on Niger in a game pitting two of Africa’s three surviving representatives against each other.
A repeat of the Afcon semi final clash, Ghana started the stronger of the two teams and maintained the upper hand throughout the game.
The chance to take the lead came just before half time when Ayiah was fouled in the box. He picked himself up to slot in the resulting spot kick.
Ghana had the chance to take a 2 goal lead in the second half when another penalty was awarded to them, but Ayiah failed to convert this time around.
Still, the team managed to pick up the victory when Danso struck a 30 yard screamer into the top corner of the net to pad the scoreline.
Ghana thus advance to meet Mali, who beat us in the final of the African Cup of Nations. It’s revenge time for the Starlets.
