If you are a smart person, you would have once asked yourself this question: Are we really supposed to come into this world, work to pay bills, work till we are about 65—retired and die a few years later?
The above is the life of most people, especially those who trade time (their existence) for hourly or monthly wages.
It has been described as the dumbest way to make money. I mean, trading your time directly for money—which is what most jobs are about. You go to work, and you are paid for the work you do or for being there.
Beyond this, you are subjected to different levels of constraints. Even if you need a day off, you would have to literally beg or complete a form and pray that your boss signs it for you. That’s the definition of contemporary slavery for some us—except that the slave masters are called Bosses and Managers. Unlike some of us who are always on CouponsMonk.com looking for the best holiday deals, most of those who trade their time directly for money do not even travel anywhere.
About 15 years ago when I was introduced to the internet, I started questioning the status-quo in relation to our human existence and earning money. Without knowing any alternative, I was sure that it’s stupid to trade valuable hours of my life for money.
More also, when the bosses wouldn’t pay you enough to eventually quit but would give you just enough each month so you keep coming back to give them your time in return for money.
And then I chanced on those who call themselves the new rich, a generation of smart thinkers—of which Mark Zuckerberg fits the class.
These people didn’t want to live the conventional boring 9-5 or 9 to 9 lifestyles. They realised the most valuable asset in life is time; when you die, time stops for you—and therefore trading that for what’s mostly peanuts makes no sense.
The new rich therefore take pride in being in charge of TIME, by creating systems to make money for them, instead of getting paid per the time they dedicate to work.
In fact, no smart millionaire actually works for another person.
So 10 about years ago, I started my journey to create a system to make money for me—a system that would save me from directly trading my time for money so that I am not robbed of the valuable experiences life offers.
That’s when I launched my blog, GhanaLounge, then GhanaCelebrities.Com and has since gone on to launch other online businesses, including ScrewLife.Com, Via Fame PR and others.
That was then when the internet was accessible by only the privileged few —today, many of us are connected to the internet and yet have failed to take charge of the endless opportunities the connectivity offers.
I have lived on my online businesses for many years: it paid for my Law School Education ( I mean, first degree in Law, Masters in Law and a second Masters in Law) and they bring in over 50,000 dollars in yearly revenue. I make this from the same internet you are connected to.
For me, it’s not even about the money but the FREEDOM this offers me. I mean, Freedom to be anywhere, to spend whatever time I want with whoever I choose to. After writing this article, I will jump into bed to spend the next 2 hours by the side of my wife, to watch a documentary we have bookmarked to watch.
I can do this because I have control over my time. I decide what I want to do at every minute.
Late last month, I was in Ghana for 10 days where I threw a mini Khebab party each night. From Ghana, I flew into the UK for 2 days and then flew out to Ukraine. From Ukraine, I flew off to Belgium and then to France.
I did all the above in about 3 weeks and it was possible not because I had money, but because I have control over my LIFE, I mean TIME.
TIME is money and therefore whoever controls TIME is the richest. So instead of continuing to offer your time to some company or Boss for monthly peanuts, why don’t you start to work towards owning your own TIME, I mean your own life?
How does it feel to know that someone actually owns you—yeah, your boss does.
The world is beautiful: it’s full of diverse culture, views, experiences, people and things. But unfortunately, many people wouldn’t be able to even see a yard away from where they live—simply because they will trade their time for money until they are old and cannot work again. And they will die broke too.
Interestingly, Facebook has started paying users for valuable content these people publish. It’s time to start making money online—even when you sleep. That’s when you can begin to actually live, because most people are just surviving.
I always recommend starting your own blog if you have access to the internet. It’s a simple online business that costs little to nothing to start—and if well managed, it will soon set you free so you would begin to own your TIME.
It has worked for me and several others, so why not you too?
