Isn’t God wonderful? It’s like you have an exams coming up you never studied for, then a fire destroys the central hub where all the question papers are being kept, and the teachers have no back up questions available.
Officials of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) must be dancing hallelujah this morning following a ‘fire’ which gutted their premises just one day before the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO) was scheduled to carry out a financial audit.
According to the Daily Graphic, the financial department of the GMA was gutted by fire last week Wednesday, which was just a day before the planned EOCO audit.
The audit was scheduled to look into alleged financial malfeasance at the organization dating back many years, and lo and behold, the fire gutted the financial branch of the GMA.
According to officials of the agency, they also have no backups of these records, essentially meaning there is no way for the audit to go ahead.
“Unfortunately, we do not have a backup of what we lost and the authority has all this while been keeping records manually,” the Director-General of the GMA, Mr Kwame Owusu, confirmed to the Daily Graphic Tuesday.
