Editor in chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako, has called for the investigation into allegations of corruption against two deputy chiefs of staff to be reopened and handed to another government body to investigate.
According to Baako, the Police CID’s investigation has been brought into disrepute following the leak of an audio tape allegedly showing a police officer telling A Plus some parts of the investigation were covered up.
Speaking on the new development, Kwaku Baako said it’s in the interest of all parties for the investigation to be taken from the CID and handed to another agency to look into.
“Bottom line, I think the matter should be re-investigated, that is the cure. I don’t know either by the police, EOCO, CHRAJ or whatever. I may be doing something wrong but I don’t believe there was any real corruption. I don’t believe so, I am yet to be convinced “, he said on Metro TV.
According to him, whilst he does not believe the two gentlemen had done anything wrong, it was in their own interest for the case to be reinvestigated so all doubts are removed.
“It is in their own inherent interest to be cleared properly. I think the two deputy Chiefs of Staff must be cleared; they must be cleared transparently by an independent body. The fresh investigations will also help the CID if it turns out that their findings were factual. A new investigations must be necessary but I still have not thought of which agency must do that”, he added.
This call from Kwaku Baako follows the leak of a audio tape in which A Plus can be heard talking to a senior police official, parts of which appear to show that A Plus’ allegations had merit but was being covered up for political reasons.
A Plus had earlier alleged that the two deputy chiefs of staff at the Presidency, Abu Jinapor and Francis Asenso-Boakye, were corrupt. However, a police investigation cleared them both and declared A Plus’ allegations unsubstantiated.
