Most Ghanaian actors/actresses and producers want us to support the industry no matter the rubbish they pour out, but Mikki Osei Berko has no appetite for that.
The fact is nobody wants to watch something which wouldn’t give them value for their money or time, and therefore only ‘deserving’ movies would be patronized by the public.
Simply saying support ‘made in Ghana’, therefore watch whatever we put out regardless of quality, is not going to work.
One person who recognizes that is veteran actor and filmaker Mikki Osei Berko, affectionately known as ‘Master Richard’.
Speaking on the issue, he said he cannot watch most of the local productions because they are simply so bad.
“I can’t watch most of Ghanaian movies, Oh it’s true, I must be honest, I can’t watch most of them because the quality doesn’t teach anything… I don’t really know if we’re doing videos or films but I see most of the producers doing videos and not film,” he said, speaking on Kasapa Fm.
According to him, most producers have the talent to do the work, but they lack the skill to complement their talent. Skill without talent does not work.
“In every work, you need skill. Skill is when you put talent and training together… The skill is employable but not talent but in the Ghanaian movie industry, we depend on the talent than skill,” he opined.
