Rastafarian Girl Denied SHS Admission Due To Her Dreadlocks

A young rastafarian trying to gain admission into the Accra Girls Senior High School has been denied admission due to her dreadlocks.
The father of the girl revealed to Adom News that when they turned up to the school authorities refused to admit his daughter and every attempt to explain why the girl’s hair is long has not been listened to.
It is against the beliefs of Rastafarians for them to cut their hair, but the headmistress of the school is not prepared to listen to any explanation.
“I tried to see the headmistress [to explain]. She was locked in her office. We want to see her to clarify things. We are Rastafarians as such our kids need to be educated just like every other religion. I don’t see why she won’t be able to keep her locks …” the father told Adom News.
If we claim religious beliefs are ‘sacred’ in this country we can’t blatantly discriminate against one religious group in such bold fashion.
