Scores of Kumawood actors, actresses, producers and directors hit the streets of Kumasi on Thursday as they demonstrated against the influx of foreign soaps translated into the local language which has taken over programming on Ghana television stations.
The stakeholders of the industry have expressed their opposition to these soaps and how they are destroying their movies and they took to the streets to make sure that position was felt.
Thus on Thursday, September 14, they gathered in Kumasi to make their voices felt.
The demonstration started at the Cultural Centre and continued all the way to Manhyia were filmmakers presented their grievances to the Asantehene.
Stars like Lil Win, Akrobeto, Mercy Asiedu, Nana Ama McBrown, Yaw Dabo, Rev Nyarko, and many others were all in attendance for the event.
Kumawood is calling for a government directive which lets local stations show more local content and limit these foreign soaps which they believe are helping destroy their industry.
