‘Religion has actually convinced people that there’s an invisible man living in the sky’ – George Carlin.
As we know, every good hero needs a great villain. Therefore as God is the invisible man in the sky, Satan is his invisible enemy under the ground.
There are a lot of absurd stories one reads about on this continent of Africa every single day, and seven times out of ten, religion is involved (the rest is for gargantuan corruption).
The stories are numerous and doesn’t need listing (especially for anyone who regularly reads this site), but religion has a unique way of making the absurd look normal since everyone else is doing it.
Case in point, this video recorded in a Nigerian church showing the congregants ‘lashing’ the devil whilst praying.
If you meet a madman on the streets and he’s beating on the ground, and you asked him what he was doing and he said he was beating his ‘enemy’ who was stuck in the ground, you’d probably chuckle and move on.
But it’s in church so its okay.
Africa simultaneously remains the most religious continent and the poorest, but we still aren’t picking up on the fact that success has very little to do with religiosity.
