Serena Williams has welcomed her first child into the world, a baby girl.
Williams was admitted to the St Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, where she gave birth.
The tennis star’s coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, broke the news on twitter.
“Congratulations @SerenaWilliams for your baby girl. I am so happy for you and I feel your emotion,” Mouratoglou wrote.
“Btw … I wish you a speedy recovery… we have a lot of work ahead of us,” he added.
Williams is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and revealed news of her pregnancy earlier this year.
Numerous sports stars have congratulated the 23 times Grand Slam winner, including sister Venus, who’s currently competing in the US Open.
Said world number three Garbine Muguruza, who beat Venus in the Wimbledon final earlier this year: “A baby girl? Well, I hope she doesn’t play tennis,”, she said with a smile.
