Former Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Agyapong Quaitoo, resigned his position late Tuesday after he stirred up controversy by describing Northerners as ‘difficult’ people.
As we reported, Quaitoo handed in his resignation to the President after intense pressure following his unfortunate tribal comment.
The former Minister has now explained his motives for stepping down.
In a text message sent to friends after his resignation, he said his stepping down was a gesture to promote peace.
“Thank you all for your kind words. In addition to the sincere apology, I resigned to bring peace among all those who were offended and to save the President and the entire party from further rancour and disaffection. The party is bigger than any individual member. I pray for a better future for all of us. Good night,” he said.
Despite a quick apology from him, the member of parliament for Oda, many Northerners said an apology was not enough.
