3News reports…

The three persons accused to have robbed Madam Akua Donkor of her $30,000 last year have been sentenced to 20 years in prison each.
The three – Yakubu Yusif, who is the Central Region Chairman of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Barnabas Kayase, Secretary of GFP, and Opoku Agyemang – were arrested on December 31, 2016, a day after the incident. They had been accused of conniving to rob the GFP Founder and Leader while on her way out of the country.
According to prosecution, the accused said they wanted to stop the politician from travelling to the International Criminal Court (ICC), where she had told them she was heading to to file an electoral suit against Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s victory in 2016. They said they rather seized her bag and not with an intention to rob her of the cash.
Madam Donkor had reported to the police that the three at gunpoint robbed her of her travelling bag containing her plane ticket, Ghanaian passport, voters ID card, GH¢3,000 and the $30,000.
The three were arraigned for conspiracy to rob and robbery. Two other accomplices have been on the run.
In delivering its judgement on Tuesday, the Accra Circuit Court said the testimony tendered by the accused did not represent the whole truth. It, as a result, slapped the prison sentence on the three.
