A group of hackers who once hacked none other than Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday took over the twitter account of Spanish side Barcelona and wreaked havoc for a few hours.
The hackers announced a new signing for the club, Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel Di Maria.
“Welcome Angel Di Maria to FC Barcelona!” the tweet from the hackers read.
The club later secured control of their account and took down the tweet.
It’s been quite an eventful summer for the club, who lost talisman Neymar to PSG in a bitter deal which has led to the club suing the Brazilian forward.
An inability to procure worthy successors to Neymar in the transfer market has made fans bitter, making the ‘announcement’ of the Di Maria signing something of a rebuke.
It was later announced that Saudi Arabian hacking group Our Mine were the hackers. The group has built a notorious rep in recent years, with hacking victims including Facebook CEO Zuckerberg, CNN, Marvel and Netflix.
