The Ghana @ 60 planning committee announced at a presser held at the Flagstaff House Wednesday that the 4th day of this month would be honoured as the true birthday of the country.
On the 4th August, 1947, the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) was formed in Saltpond. According to Ghana @ committee member Abu Jinapor, that day marked the beginning of the state that we were to eventually to become.
Jinapor also said that the democratic ideals of freedom of speech, the rule of law and respect for fundamental human rights were birthed in Ghana on that day.
To mark the day, a memorial service would be held at Saltpond, with the President as the special guest of honour. The Speaker of Parliament is also set to deliver a landmark speech to mark the day titled “4th August, Ghana’s day of Destiny”.
