Kwesi Appiah Not Paid Two Months Into New Job

Kwesi Appiah

Head coach of the senior national team, James Kwesi Appiah, has reportedly not been paid two months into his new job.
The Finder Newspaper reports that neither Appiah nor the members of his technical team has received a dime since taking the job, due to a standoff between GNPC and the GFA.
The Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC), have been headline sponsors of the Stars for the past few years, however, the change in government has brought a change in direction, as the NPP wants the money being sunk into the Stars to be reinvested in other more productive areas of the economy.
That has led to friction with the Ghana Football Association, which has a contract with GNPC, which includes the company paying the salary of the coach of the national team.
The delay in payment has raised concerns over why a local coach, who earns lesser than what Avram Grant used to earn, is being treated this way.
Grant used to earn $50,000 per month, whilst Kwesi Appiah is said to be earning around $35,000.
However, the PRO of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Elvis Adjei Baah, has told The Finder that arrangements are in place for the payments to be made.
“We have made arrangements for the monies to be paid. It is just unfortunate we have to wait for this long. Everything is been done to make sure it is paid. It is quite a process but they will be paid,” he said.
He added: “We must admit is quite unfortunate this problem persists, they should give us some time. I know we are forced to draw comparison with Avram Grant and that is where we don’t want to get to”
