The Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Queen Elizabeth II, would soon have her taste buds assaulted by the delicious taste of Ghana’s favourite dish – ‘Waakye’.
A Ghanaian chef, Elijah Amoo Addo, has received, and accepted, an invitation to cook for the British monarch, and has announced ‘Waakye’ is his choice dish to present to her.
Amoo Addo was recently part of a group of about 60 young people selected from Commonwealth nations who were awarded with the Queen’s ‘Young Leaders Award.’

He was in the UK to receive the award, where he met the Queen who expressed interest in eating some of his food.
“The most fascinating of it all is having to meet the Queen and for the Queen to ask me if I’ll love to cook for her which obviously I said yes. I’m going to cook one of our favourite dishes in Ghana, Waakye,” Amoo revealed in an interview after receiving the award.
The Young Leaders Award is presented annually to young people striving hard to make a difference in their communities, and Amoo’s ‘Food For All’ Program qualified him for one.
Under the program, he collects leftover foods from restaurants and food vendors to help feed the mentally challenged and the needy in Ghana.
