The family of the late Ghanaian coach, Herbert Addo, says the late coach was denied a visa to seek treatment in the United Kingdom when he fell sick, and they believe that led to his death.

Philip Addo, brother to the late coach, revealed to Ghanaweb that their inability to get him specialised treatment abroad contributed to his death.

“It is clear that he was not feeling too well. He had some medical problems that we did not really know about but we asked him to go the hospital and seek medical attention.

“His condition started improving slightly but it took a nosedive suddenly. So we decided to fly him to London for treatment but for some strange reasons he was denied a visa.”

Philip added that they sincerely believe that treatment would have saved their kinsman.

Herbert Addo, who coached Accra Hearts of Oak, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Ashgold, and a host of other Ghana Premier League teams, died in March this year and was buried over the weekend.

Addo won the Ghana Premier League five times with four different clubs, the first manager to do so. He was also the only manager to lead a club to an unbeaten season in the league.

He was 66.
