Major (rtd) Boakye Gyan has called for those arrested for participating in the gruesome murder of the late Maxwell Mahama to be executed.
Speaking on TV3, the former army officer said the killers should have been executed the same day as the burial of the slain officer, to serve as a deterrent against similar acts in the future.
Major Maxwell Mahama was killed by a mob of Denkyira-Obuasi residents in the Central Region of Ghana.
Scores of people have been arrested and are currently on trial for the death of Mahama, but Boakye Gyan says they should be convicted of treason and summarily executed.
According to Boakye Gyan, “there are so many loopholes” in the justice system that “they can come out and nothing will come out from [the case],”
Instead of a prolonged trial which could end with some going scot free, the retired soldier said “the people who are caught must be executed the same day the man is buried…the sentencing must be high treason”.
Major Mahama was buried earlier this month following laying in state at the State House in Accra.
