The decision of the former CEO of COCOBOD, Dr Stephen Opuni and his siblings to bury their mum in a fully constructed house, complete with its own garden, has generated intense online debate.
Such opulence for the dead, especially coming from the family of a man just coming off a perceived corrupt stint as head of COCOBOD, raised many question among the populace.
On air personality Kwame Gyan is one of those who raised the issue, wondering why the edifice to the late mum was necessary. “President Mahama didn’t bury his mum like this. Heck! Did we even bury Nkrumah like this?” he wondered on Facebook.
However, actress and writer Lydia Forson completely disagrees with the position. Responding to Kwame Gyan, Forson wrote that how anyone buries their mum is solely their prerogative, even if outsiders find it distasteful or not.

“Come on Kwame. I don’t get what this has to do with anything. How someone chooses to mourn or bury a loved one is entirely up to them no matter how ridiculous we may think it is.
You can’t and shouldn’t compare how people bury their loved ones, that’s way below the belt. You know we can talk about issues without being petty, and dragging people’s personal lives and decisions into the mix. This is how important issues lose their importance because we focus on all the wrong things. We pick at every single hair and become so petty that the REAL issue is overlooked. This is so not right I’m sorry.”
Is the often right Ms Forson right this time?
