Black Stars Paid $5,000 For Ethiopia Win – Down From $10,000 In The Past

The Black Stars players were paid $5,000 each as winning bonus for beating Ethiopia in the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier played in Kumasi Sunday.

After negotiations between government and the team, the compromise figure was reached as government said they could not pay the old rate of $10,000.

“We have explained to the players that the government can no longer pay exorbitant winning bonuses given the limited resources at our disposal”, Deputy Sports Minister, Pius Enam Hadzide, told the media in Kumasi after the game.

The Stars beat Ethiopia 5-0 in the qualifier as Kwesi Appiah’s first official game in charge after his return went smoothly.

Whilst the bonus has been slashed in half – do you think it’s enough or that’s still too much to be paid for winning one game representing your country?
