It’s looking more and likely that galamsey issues played a crucial role in the killing of Capt. Maxwell Mahama.
Even though the initial police report laying out what their preliminary investigations have revealed has no galamsey portion, Ghanaians online remain unconvinced that the captain was merely mistaken for a robber.
A recent post by a social media user claims the late soldier was not jogging prior to his lynching as widely reported, but that he actually attended a meeting with galamsey leaders in the community.
According to Evans Gyamera-Antwi, Mahama was killed when he turned up for the ‘meeting’. He claimed before his death, four soldiers had also been beaten by residents of the town after being invited to a similar ‘galamsey meeting’.
Antwi’s claim has galvanised the social media conversation over Mahama’s death once again but for now, there’s nothing confirming his ‘theory’.
