The University of Leicester has released a statement mourning the death of their student, Maxwell Mahama.
The late army captain, killed like an animal by a mob in Denkyira-Obuasi, was a student at the UK university where he was studying for his master’s degree.
Before his life was so tragically cut short, Mahama was apparently working to improve his level of education as well.
“We have learnt, with great regret, of the death of Maxwell Mahama, a Captain in the Ghanaian Army.” the University said in a statement on its website.
“Captain Mahama was a distance learning student in our Department of Criminology reading for the degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Security and Risk Management. He had enrolled on the degree in 2015 and was due to graduate at this summer’s degree ceremonies.”
The soldier was also set to be promoted from his current rank to Major.
