A former District Chief Executive of Upper Denkyira West, of which the town of Denkyira-Obuasi – which lynched an army officer to death – falls under, has described the town as one fond of lawlessness.
Ambrose Ashia, speaking to Asempa Fm, said the youth of the town has been engaged in lynching and unlawful attacks on others for a while now.
Ashia was DCE under the former Mahama adminitration and recounted incidents of such unlawful attacks which occurred during his time in office.
“Between 2013-2015 when the Chinese Company was constructing our main roads, the youth of Boase attacked and beat the Chinese contractors, who were using stones from the area for the construction, claiming the contractors had not done provided them with any ammenities.” Ashia said Tuesday.

“They only stopped after security personnel were called in.” he added.
Ashia also revealed another incident where an ‘innocent’ man had been lynched in the area.
“…A man who had gone for an allnight service was lynched on his return after he was suspected to be a serial killer but luckily he survived and presented himself to the police.”
According to Ashia, the town is overrun with a culture of impunity towards the law and he’s not surprised by what happened to the army captain.
