Supreme Court Justice Anin Yeboah has called on the National Media Commission (NMC) to be more stringent in regulating content which erodes the moral fabric of the youth of this country.
Speaking at the swearing in of new members of the Commission, Justice Yeboah pointed towards the influx of telenovelas as examples of what he was talking about, as well as the increase in showing s*x scenes.
Justice Yeboah, who was recently elected as head of the disciplinary committee of Fifa, argued that such programmes on tv are causing damage to the moral centre of the youth.
“The damage all this inflicts on the moral centre of the youth in particular is incalculable, in this respect, article 164 of the Constitution which imposes national security, national morality and public order restrictions on the media begs for strict enforcement,” he said.
According to him, the commission should be more proactive and not remain a ‘paper tiger’ in enforcing regulations.
