Songstress Efya has opened up on her views about the issues of gay rights and surprisingly, the smooth voiced vocalist espouses some progressive views far to the left of her countrymen/women.

Speaking on 3FM, Efya said the world has moved on from the old mindsets and a lot of things are being embraced now that weren’t in the past.

On the specific issues of how gays should be treated, she said those who profess that s*xual orientation should be treated based on their individual merits as a person and not solely based on their s*xuality.

“There are a lot happening in our world, this is not the 90s. People are coming out because they’re discovering themselves in a different way. I think if we find a way to understand everybody as they want to be, it wouldn’t be about that (Sexual Orientation), it will be about who they are as a person and not their sexuality.” she said.

What a radical idea! Treating a person based on their merits and not what they do in their bedrooms!

Speaking further on s*xual issues, Efya also advocated having the s*x talk with adolescents and getting them to use contraceptives since, realistically, they’re already having s*x anyway.

“Because of our tradition, we shy away from sex, but the young people are having sex and some of them are having unprotected sex,” she continued.

“I feel like a lot of the young girls should also be spoken to about getting on the pill. It doesn’t fully prevent pregnancies but it’s the most efficient that has been certified.”
