Whilst President Mahama’s family continue to insist the former first gentleman is done with politics, elements in the party continue to lobby for him to return to lead the party into the next Presidential elections.
Latest to add to that chorus is Alhaji Mohammed Muniru-Limuna, a Former Northern Regional Minister who served under the government of Mahama.
Speaking to mynews.com.gh, Alhaji Limuna said physically and spiritually, there’s no one better than the first one term President in the history of the Fourth Republic to lead the party into the next election.
“He is the one who is spiritually and physically capable to lead the party to victory in 2020.” he said.
“It is either John Mahama or no one else. My prayer however is that he should accept to go as our candidate in 2020 despite claims by his family he will not run again.” he added.

Mahama led the NDC to the 2016 elections, where he was soundly beaten by President Akufo-Addo, as the NDC also lost their substantial parliamentary majority. Since then, there has been mounting speculation over whether he would contest in 2020, with his brother Ibrahim making it clear the family prefers he doesn’t – although that hasn’t stopped the immense lobbying for his comeback by elements within the party.
