A senior official in the Church of Pentecost, Koforidua, has called on the church to exercise mercy when dealing with young members who backslide, fornicate and get themselves pregnant out of wedlock.
Apostle Eric Nyamekye, The Koforidua Area Head of the Church, charged church leaders within his jurisdiction and the church at large, to carry out such punishments in a way which would not lead the victims into a spiral of depression and maybe suicide.
The church of Pentecost is notorious for dealing with members who get pregnant out of wedlock in a harsh manner, such as humiliating them before the entire congregation.
Apostle Nyamekye said such naming and shaming practices were not the best.
