Man Pays 42m Naira Tithe To Church In Nigeria

An unidentified man has paid the sum of 42m naira (approx $133,000) to a church in Nigeria as tithe, a situation which has left all who heard about in some sort of shock.

The NKST Church High level in Makurdi, Benue State, received the anonymous offering via a deposit in the church’s account in January.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported the news, which was initially denied by the church’s head pastor, Frederick Ikyaan. However, the church’s financial reports showed NAN’s report to be right, at which point the pastor claimed he had only been denying accusations that the donation was from a member of the state’s government.

The incident is making news in Benue because the state government has been struggling to pay the salaries of public sector workers and the public’s suspicion seems to be that an official is hoarding state’s money via this method.

The church’s accounts, which were accessed by NAN, showed that the church made revenues of 56.3m Naira in the first quarter of 2017, out of which expenditures of 33.7m Naira were made. These figures, as with all church revenue, is completely tax free.
