A Committee set up by the Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko, and chaired by lawyer Philip Addison, have found out that the famed AMERI power deal for turbines which was allegedly inflated is quite likely a fraudulent deal.
The 17 member committee found that the Middle Eastern company had charged close to $150m as commission for the deal, and called on government to call AMERI back to the table for a renegotiation as the deal is ‘grossly unfair’ to Ghana.

The deal involved procuring ten turbines for Ghana to fight the then incessant power crisis. Norwegian newspaper VG reported at the time that Ghana, represented by the the NDC government and power minister Kwabena Donkor, was paying close to over $290m higher than the market price for the turbines.
“The Agreement simply is grossly unfair and is not as it presently stands, in the best interest of Ghana.” the report reads.
“…The Committee therefore recommends that Ameri Energy should be invited back to the negotiation table to address and remedy the issues enumerated in this report.”
