There is this debate in the music industry between the ‘purists’ and the ‘realists’ over whether miming is ever acceptable – no matter what the truth is a lot of artists mime during shows instead of performing over backing instrumentals.
But there are also a lot of artists who are against that and think those who mime aren’t ‘proper’ musicians.
Nacee, the gospel musician who blessed us with ‘Onaapo’ is seemingly one of the purists. In an interview with Showbiz, he said artists who mime at shows are ‘cheats’ who are swindling their fans.

“I see it as cheating when artistes mime to pre-recorded tracks for their fans who have paid to watch them perform. It certainly does not make sense that your fans and patrons have your CDs at home and they come out to watch you only for you to mime the same song or songs. It is just not fair to your audience. You are not doing them any good,” Nacee said.
He added: “With live band, one has to rehearse all the time with the band which is a lot of work thus most musicians choose the easier way. Miming is very easy,”
According to him, artists who perform with live band are ‘100% better’ than those who do not.
