Forbes have released their annual list of the richest people in the world and Microsoft founder Bill Gates remains top, with a net worth of $86bn.
The world’s number of billionaires have swelled by 13% from 1,810 in 2016 to 2,043 in 2017 – the largest increase in billionaires since Forbes started collecting date three decades ago, the magazine reported.
The total net worth of just these over 2,000 individuals is a staggering $7.67 trillion.
The top of the list saw little change, although some people have moved places. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos moved back into the top three, finishing the year third with a net worth of $72.8bn. Warren Buffet snatched second spot from Spanish clothing line owner Amancio Ortega. Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg ended up at fifth place on the list.
