World football’s governing body Fifa has banned Mali from international football for government interference in the running of football in the country.
Fifa announced the decision Friday – blocking the country from competing in any Fifa organised competition until the issues plaguing the country are resolved.
The Malian government recently dissolved the Executive Committee of the Malian Football Federation (FEMAFOOT), appointing a provisional committee to run the body in their stead. Fifa frowns intently upon government interference in sport.

Governments and FA’s often clash on the continent due to the fact that the former funds the latter, but cannot take action to cure any rot due to Fifa’s rules. Nigeria is just another example of an African country who suffered a recent ban due to friction of this same nature.
