Lawyer for the Marwako supervisor who allegedly dipped the face of an employee, Evelyn Boakye in pepper, says his client is a Ghanaian and not Lebanese, contrary to media reports.
Augustine Asafo-Adjei, speaking after Chaaban’s first court appearance Wednesday, accused the media of sensationalising the issue and thus getting basic facts like Chaabn’s nationality wrong.
“He is a Ghanaian and the company is a Ghanaian company too …his uncles that you see with fair colours are all Ghanaians,” he told 3news.
According to him, the reporting that the girl’s face was dipped in pepper is also wrong, as what happened was that the pepper accidentally splashed on her.
“The fact is that there was a splash of pepper into the face of the lady. It cannot be intentional. Have you bothered to find out whether the girl went to work the following day? The girl went to work. Some of these facts are there for you to find out. You did not find out and you created sensation,” he said.
“Now apart from him, you are collapsing a business that is employing the same Ghanaians,”
The case of Chaaban came to prominence after Evelyn Boakye, the Ghanaian employee of the company, told the Daily Graphic that her Lebanese supervisor had dipped her face in pepper and held her down abusively.
Chaaban was later arrested and appeared in court Wednesday, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded in police custody to reappear at a later date.
