Atletico Madrid forward Fernando Torres suffered quite the scare Thursday night after he fell near unconscious following a clash of heads with an opponent.

Torres’ Atletico were playing Deportivo La Coruna in a La Liga game when the striker fell face first onto the ground after a clash with a Deportivo defender.

Torres hit his head so hard, he was virtually unmovable. The impact looked so bad it looked Torres had snapped his neck.

Players immediately rushed to his aid, with some even having to keep him from swallowing his own tongue. There was a slight delay in the game as medics stabilised him to be transported to hospital.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea forward spent the night in hospital and thankfully, is now in stable condition.

“Thanks for the messages of support for @Torres. He’s stable and conscious. He’ll spend the night in hospital and undergo more tests tomorrow” the club tweeted later in the night.
