Dancehall act Jupitar has waded into the ‘beef’ between Mark Okraku Mantey and Shatta Wale and unsurprisingly, he’s taking the side of the former.
This entire issue, remember, started when Mark said Shatta was not a dancehall artist and that only Jupitar was a true dancehall star in Ghana.
Asked about his thoughts on Mark’s praise – Jupitar said it was really high praise since in his view, Mark was one of the finest producers in the country.
He said he agreed with the assertion that he was the only one doing ‘real dancehall’ in the country as the others were doing ‘Afro-dancehall’.
“If you judge Jupitar, you can tell I am doing hundred percent dancehall.” He told GhanaWeb.
“They (other artists) try to make it look more commercial and name it ‘Afro-dancehall’. There is nothing like ‘Afro-dancehall’. Can I say we have ‘Afro-R&B’? Dancehall is dancehall.”
He added: “Whatever Mark Okraku-Mantey said, I’m not surprised. He knows music… I really appreciate it, I’m privileged and humbled,”
Mark’s comments, made whilst on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, provoked a huge response from Shatta – who took to Facebook to decimate the veteran producer in his usual fashion.
