Ohemaa Mercy

Gospel singer Ohemaa Mercy has rescinded her decision to return the VGMA awards plaques she has won due to allegations of bribery levelled against gospel artists by CharterHouse’s PRO George Quaye.

Speaking to Mike 2 on Adom Fm, the singer’s manager and husband, Isaac Twum-Ampofo, said the singer was no more returning the plaques because CharterHouse had taken steps that has dissociated themselves from Quaye’s irresponsible comments.

Mr Twum Ampofo said the singer and her management met CharterHouse after their threat to return their plaques and meeting went smoothly.

He added that Charterhouse stripping Quaye of his duties as spokesperson for the awards shows they are distancing themselves from his comments, and therefore Ohemaa Mercy felt comfortable that the allegations against gospel artists hold no merit.

George Quaye stirred controversy a few weeks ago when he claimed that gospel musicians give out bribes in an attempt to win awards – a statement which incensed many gospel acts and led to the threat from Mercy to return her plaque.
