Beauty Pageants Banned In Guinea After Country’s Prime Minister Was Severely Criticised For Attending One

Upon all these scandals that plague Gh beauty pageants every year, perhaps this decision would be best fitted to our country rather than Guinea.

Although, we actually have great reasons to stop the pageants including fraud and exploitation, rather than just ‘moral’ outrage.

According to a report from the BBC, beauty pageants have been banned in Guinea after people complained over the dressing at a recent one attended by the country’s Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Mamady Youlaa attended the pageant, where the skimpily clad girls were paraded in front of him – sparking criticism of the pageant and especially of the Premier. A newspaper article accused him of promoting prostitution!

One tweeter said the event brought shame to Guinean culture.

In response, the government has banned the holding of pageants in the country until a new dressing code is drawn up, Culture Minister Siaka Barry said.

To that end, a committee has been set up to come up with the code.
