Mahama Set The Foundation For Free SHS But Nana Addo Should Focus On Access To Quality Education Not Just Free – Okudzeto Ablakwa

Over the weekend Nana Addo as Guest Of Honour at Okuapeman Senior High School’s 60th Anniversary announced government’s readiness to commence free education in Public Senior High Schools from September 2017.

The announcement has engaged all across the political divide to share their thoughts on the feasibility or lauding NPP’s commitment to its campaign promises.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who was Deputy Education Minister in the erstwhile Mahama administration, has agreed that the free SHS policy is doable but based on the resources available to support it.

The North Tongu MP, speaking on Starr Fm, said he thought the Government should focus on access to quality education and also called for Nana Addo to be committed to finishing the Senior High Day Schools Mahama started.

He said ” it is clear that all political parties were aware of the statistics and were conscious of the fact that we needed more Secondary Schools and so when are are hearing matters to do with only equity, only free, free things, free school fees and we are not hearing commitment about quality, about access it can be worrying”.

Detailing if the grounds is fertile for the Free SHS, Mr Ablakwa told Nii Addey Clegg, Host of the Morning Starr, that Ex-President Mahama has set the position for the nation to off shoot the programme as it was their intention to progressively make it free.

“I will say that yes the foundation has been laid by President Mahama. I think that where we are now is far better than where we were four years ago, if we were to implement this Free SHS programme” Ablakwa said.
