President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has emphasised that when his government says Senior High School Education is going to be free, they literally mean EVERYTHING is going to be free.
The current form of ‘free’ Senior High School program in the country, implemented by the former NDC government, is a system of tuition free education, but which the student have to bear any other cost.

Speaking at the 60th Anniversary Celebration of the Okuapeman Senior High School, the President, guest of honour for the occasion, promised that they would make Senior High School education truly free for the people of Ghana.
Aside the tuition free system already in place, the President promised everything else would be free, including boarding fees.
“So that no one in Ghana is left in any doubts”, the president said “By free SHS, we mean that, in addition to tuition which is already free, there will be no admission fees, no library fees, no science centre fees, no computer lab fees, no examination fees, no utility fees; there will be free textbooks, free boarding and free meals, and day students will get a meal at school for free.”

According to the President, his administration has a “well-thought out plan that involves the building of new public Senior High Schools and cluster public Senior High Schools”.
The President added that vocational and technical institutions at the secondary level will also benefit from this new policy, which takes effect from the 2017/2018 academic year.
