‘Ekiki Me’ hitmaker Wisa has laid his claim to the top award at the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards which comes off in April this year.
Wisa, in an interview, said he has had a massive year and believes it’s now his time to go home with the award very few artists have won in its history.
In the past, only legendary stars such as Daddy Lumba, Lord Kenya, Ofori Amponsah, Samini and the like have grasped this award. In recent years, Sarkodie, E.L, Shatta Wale and others have also joined their name to the list. It’s a very exclusive club.

But Wisa believes the success he’s chalked in 2016 makes him the favourite for the award.
“…I have worked very hard this year and a big yes, I’m extremely optimistic of winning [the VGMA] Artiste of the year Award,” Wisa told dailyviewgh.
“All the songs I dropped last year didn’t have any line of profanity to suggest I’m informing the youth or my fans wrongly, but they are rather entertaining and motivational lyrics that inform and educate the country and the world at large.”

He added: “So if Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is really “Ghana Music Awards,” then the organisers should factor in the influence of a song nationwide, not only in Accra or any capital region, but also in all the villages and in the rest of the country. Which my song did all over the country for months, and still reigns.
“I really respect the organizers of the VGMA’s and expect them to do the right thing by awarding those who clearly deserve the awards.”
One other singer who has been gunning hard for awards at this year’s show is ‘Solo’ hitmaker Article Wan, although it’s doubtful if either one of them would walk out with a win.
