Otiko Djaba Approved As Minority Abstains From Vote In Protest

The majority in Parliament approved the minister designate for Gender, Otiko Djaba, Tuesday night despite the minority abstaining from the vote in protest.

The NDC claimed the candidate was not qualified due to some inflammatory comments she passed against former President Mahama as well as not doing her national service, but the majority brushed aside those concerns.

When the vote was called on the floor, the minority also claimed that the ballots about to be used for the vote did not have the stamp and signature of the Speaker, thus were ineligible – but once again the majority paid no heed and carried out the voting anyway.

The minority NDC thus declined to participate.

Otiko Djaba received 152 votes, which is more than the simple majority required for her passage to be approved.

She has thus been sworn into the role of Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection – alongside those approved earlier in the day before her firework nomination fight – Ursula Owusu-Ekuful as Minister-designate for Communications, Joe Ghartey as Minister-designate for Railway Development, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng as Minister-designate for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Joseph Kofi Addah as Minister-designate for Sanitation and Water Resources, Kwesi Amoako-Atta as Minister-designate for Roads and Highways and Kwaku Ofori-Asiamah as Minister Designate of Transport.
