New Asantehemaa Was Chosen Because She Doesn’t Menstruate

Following the death of the Asante Queen Mother, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, with a gallant display of Asante tradition at her massively attended funeral, GhanaCelebrities.com informed you of the naming of a new Asantehemaa by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The 83 year old Nana Ama Konadu, who is the new Asantehemaa, is certainly not menstruating and Nana Bogya Bia Yiadom, Otumfuo’s Kyinehene, has explained that this is the key reason that influenced her being selected among other qualified younger options.

According to Nana Bogya Bia Yiadom, the stool forbids menstruating and anyone who ascends the throne as Asantehemaa must not be a woman who still sees her period.

The Otumfuo’s Kyinehene further explained to Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa host, Bright Asempa that as tradition demands, the Asantehemaa will perform some rituals which someone who is menstruating is not eligible to perform.

He added that considering this limitation, the office calls for someone who never menstruates so they can enter the rooms of the gods any time for any functional purpose when circumstances demand.
